Remember to get your HMS Permit and Saltwater fishing license. 

As we will be bringing the fish into the port of Chincoteague VA, a VA or MD saltwater fishing license and VA FIP are required.

FSA Offshore Challenge Rules 2026

Dates:              June 19-21, 2026                      

Location:         Chincoteague VA.  Headquarters and weigh in will be at Curtis Merritt Harbor.  Must leave and return through Chincoteague Inlet.

Captain’s Meeting: June 18, 2026 4 PM.          

Lines In:          6:30AM EST.

Entry Fee:       $450.

Sign Ups:         Sign up allowed from June 1-18, 2026.

 

 

 

Rules: All Captains must be current member of FSA. Become a member https://wefishsalt.com/join-us

       Boats can fish 2 of 3 days. Only one day needs to be fishable for the tournament to be official.

o   Lay day must be declared by texting the captains chat no later than 6AM the day you plan to lay.

o   If no lay day declared Friday or Saturday then Sunday will by default be your lay day.

       Rod and hand crank reel only. No greensticking and no electric reels.

       Can only weigh in 2 tuna and 1 dolphin per day.

       No mutilated fish, a mutilated fish will be determined by the tournament committee.

       Must leave harbor the day you are fishing, no overnighters.

       Fish must be legal size limit per NOAA standards.

       You must determine which fish you want to weigh. We will not cull fish for you on the official scale! 

       Any new fish will replace the smallest previously weighed fish provided it is larger. A smaller fish is still eligible for Daily prizes. 

       Fish must be weighed the day caught.  No holdovers. 

       If no tuna are weighed for a day names will be drawn for each prize for captains who did not lay that day. 

       FSA tournament directors reserve the right to update the rules or cancel the tournament up until the captains meeting.

 

Weigh-in: 5:30PM at Curtis Merrit Harbor.

       Fish must be checked into weigh master before 5:30.

       No weighing of unchecked fish. NO EXCEPTIONS!

            

                       

Prize Payout:   To be given at July member meeting. Payout amount will be determined by number of boats. Payout totals to 100% of entry fees.

       Tuna Stringer – $200 - heaviest of 3 tuna (Yellowfin, Longfin, Bigeye, Bluefin), pays 3 places. Payout distribution is 1st 55% 2nd 30% 3rd 15%

       Calcutta Tuna – $100 - heaviest Single Tuna (Yellowfin, Longfin, Bigeye, Bluefin), pays 1 place.

       Calcutta Dolphin – $25 -  Single Biggest Dolphin, pays 1 place

       Daily largest tuna – $125 - single biggest tuna of the day (Cannot be the big tuna of the tournament) pays 1 place per day.
